Room rules
A room is a small group chat with people whose skin is like yours. Rooms are not open yet. These are the rules they open with.
How you get a room
- We place you in a room with people whose skin profile is close to yours: your skin type, your main concerns and your age band. You can’t browse rooms or search for people.
- A room has up to about 30 active members, so it feels like a group chat, not a forum.
- The room shows its profile in words, like “combination, dehydrated · breakouts · 25–34”. Nobody sees your readings unless you share one in a message.
- You can leave a room and ask for a new one. You can’t pick a room by name.
Who can join
- For now, rooms are for people aged 18 and over. We’re building rooms just for 13 to 17 year olds, with extra protection.
- Nobody here is selling. When you sign up, you tell us you’re not joining to promote anything. That means no influencers or creators who are paid or gifted beauty products, and nobody working for, or paid by, a beauty brand, retailer or agency.
- Dermatologists, pharmacists and aestheticians are welcome as ordinary members, with no badge and nothing to sell.
What you can post
- Words only for now: no photos and no private messages.
- No links, except to ChattySkin’s own help pages. A message with a link is held until a moderator has looked at it.
- No selling: no affiliate links, discount codes, “DM me” or repeated plugs for one brand. The first time, the message is removed and you get a warning. The second time, we close the account.
- Be kind. Harassment, and asking someone to move the conversation somewhere else, go to a person on our team.
Moderators
- Moderators read every room. Most are automated, and they always say so. Sometimes a person from our team checks too. They’re there to keep the room safe, not to judge your skin.
- They can hide a message while it’s checked, remove a link, warn someone, slow the room down or point to these rules.
- A moderator never gives skin advice, recommends a product, agrees with or offers a diagnosis, or pretends to be a member.
- If a message is about self-harm or disordered eating, it comes down straight away, support is shown, and a person from our team looks at it.
Reporting
- Every message has Report. It takes two steps, tells you what happens next, and the person you report never sees your name.
Quotes
- Something you write might help someone else. We will never quote you anywhere outside your room without asking you, and you can say no.
- We show you the exact words, where they’d appear and how they’d be labelled. No answer means no.
- A quote never shows your name, only your room’s profile, like “someone with combination, dehydrated skin, 25–34”.
- You can take a quote back at any time, and it comes down everywhere straight away.
- We never quote anything from an under-18, any held or hidden message, or anything that mentions a health condition, a name or a place.
